The Finance Commission of Holy Cross Catholic Church appeared at a meeting of the Holy Cross School Boosters Club to explain how the church endowments work. Explaining endowments work similar to a restricted savings account for the benefit of Holy Cross was the first point made. In particular one endowment, the Holy Cross Holy Name Athletics endowment, benefits the school in athletic facility rental, and the future hopes of expanding Holy Cross athletic education. The time value of money was explained showing that gifts to the endowments are not immediate satisfaction, but rather a gift that will likely benefit our children’s children.
The Booster Club has done many fine things for Holy Cross School including many infrastructure improvements, most recently a new audio-visual system for the school cafeteria, new smart boards in all the classrooms, and a completely refurbished computer lab.
Each year the Boosters turn 600 lbs. of pecans, 800 lbs. of caramel, and 2,000 lbs. of chocolate into around 3,000 lbs. of Bavarian Turtles. They do this using over 50 school families, and 35 parish volunteers. These efforts have made the Boosters an integral part of the Holy Cross School.
The Finance Commission appealed to the Boosters to make a donation to the Athletics Fund Endowment. They immediately discussed, proposed, and approved making a $7,500 donation to the fund. Lisa O’Neal, the President of the Boosters, said, “We look to the future at Holy Cross with great expectations, and the Holy Cross Endowments will be a major part of that success.” Their motion is now in front of the Finance Commission and Parish Council awaiting approval. Mike Hirsch, the Parish Council President, states, “The generosity and resolve of the Boosters is an inspiration to all and a certain blessing from God.”
The Athletic Endowment was started in 1997 by the parishioners at Holy Cross. Each year, an annual distribution has been made possible and to date, nearly $3,000 has been available for use from the Holy Cross Holy Name Society Athletic Endowment. This new gift will nearly double the annual distribution for this program.
