A sower went out to sow. And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path, and birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky ground, where it had little soil. It sprang up at once because the soil was not deep, and when the sun rose it was scorched, and it withered for lack of roots. Some seed fell among the thorns, and the thorns grew up and choked it. But some seed fell on rich soil, and produced fruit, a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold.

Matthew 13:3-8

Endowments in Full Bloom at St. Wendel

Frank Lamble, Fr. Dave Nunning, and Allen Schmitt sit in the meditation garden at St. Wendel Cemetery

on a sunny day in November 2002.

Throughout the years, seeds have been planted at parishes across the diocese. Amazingly, eleven new endowments have blossomed at St. Wendel Parish over the past two years. These endowments support the parish, the school and other specific ministries.  Father Ed Schnur, pastor at St. Wendel, attributes the recent flurry of activity to the fact that many families have realized that endowments are a way to establish a lasting tribute to a loved one. The parish also communicates in newsletters and bulletins about new endowments that have been established at the parish. These endowments create a perfect memorial bouquet to honor families for years to come.  Here .

A Call To Serve

A Call To Serve…Little did I know how true these words were until I had the opportunity to spend a day with those who have answered that call.  The St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. John Catholic Church in Loogootee recently extended this invitation to me.  As I arrived to meet Dan Gregory, St. Vincent de Paul board member, I realized that this would be no ordinary visit but a humbling glimpse into the work that so many volunteer laypersons are giving to individuals in Martin County.
